It’s crazy to think that it’s true that North Devon has more Michelin stars than two of the country’s biggest cities combined, but it really shows what a quality food scene we have in Devon. The Olive Room in Ilfracombe, newly awarded a Michelin star, joins The Masons Arms in Knowstone on the top of the list of North Devon restaurants. We’ll take you through some of that list below.
Thomas Carr at The Olive Room
Awarded it’s first Michelin star in the latest Michelin Guide, the restaurant is run by young chef Thomas Carr who grew up in Woolacombe and has worked with Nathan Outlaw and Michael Caines. It describes itself as ‘relaxed and unpretentious’ and being located in Ilfracombe, just over 20 minutes from Croyde Bay Resort, the menu naturally has an emphasis on seafood.
The Masons Arms
Having held a Michelin star since 2006, The Masons Arms on the edge of Exmoor has long been regarded as one of the best restaurants in the area. The 13th century inn has a pub with fine dining feel, serving Devon produce fitting with the countryside. It’s located in Knowstone but is quite easily accessible from the north Devon link road.
Michelin Guide Restaurants
A few other restaurants in the area have made it into the Michelin Guide, as well as gaining AA rosettes, such as La Gendarmerie and The Quay in IIlfracombe, NC@EX34 in Woolacombe and The Coach House in Kentisbury.
Other Devon Michelin Starred Restaurants
Lympstone Manor from Michael Caines has a Michelin star. There’s also The Elephant in Torquay, which overlooks the harbour.
